Many physicians agree that one of the best ways to help with the pain is to perform stretching exercises for sciatica. This is because many times the pain actually comes from either the nerves being compressed or the nerves being irritated, and many times sciatic nerve stretches can help to alleviate – or at least decrease – these two things altogether. Since many people who have sciatica have pain that’s specific to one area, they can actually find sciatic nerve stretches that are geared towards one place in the body where they experience the pain the worst.
What Are The Types Of Sciatic Nerve Stretches?
There are different sciatic nerve stretches a person can do based on where their pain is coming from. There are stretches for herniated discs; there are stretches for spinal stenosis; there are sciatic nerve stretches for degenerative disc disease; there are even sciatic nerve stretches for piriformis syndrome and sacroiliac join dysfunction. What all of these stretches have in common is the fact that they are designed to stretch out the muscles in that single area to try and release the pain. In the case of spinal stenosis the exercises stretch the spinal muscles. In the case of piriformis syndrome the muscle in the buttocks is stretched, and so on.
Sciatic nerve stretches can be a very effective way of handling – or even relieving in some cases – the pain that accompanies sciatica.
